Stop and Go surface retrieve with Crucian Crank

065

With the warming days, bass tends to rise in the water column and just enjoy warmth with not much feeding on his mind.
On days like this, but frankly anytime bass are sluggish Stop and go movement on the surface retrive with a lot of patience can make them react. This is also killer technique when you want to thoroughly fish specific good looking spots that should hold fish in tight spaces such as sunken trees, isolated wood, grass points etc…
Deep models of Crucian work best for this, because they will respond with an immediate wiggle the moment you pull them. This erratic action followed by surface float in which they have time to slowly approach the lure is the early spring big bass ticket.

I placed the 46 SFDR moldel next to a big sunken tree and this pig destroyed it on the pause after the inital pull. It gave me unforgettable fight thru the laydown and managed to straighten one of the trebles, but remained hooked on the back treble…
I used Okuma rod and RTX reel to horse the fish out of heavy cover with relatively light tackle…
