5 questions you want to ask your fishing buddy

You have probably already had these conversations with your fishing buddy. We asked Christian Wieneke these 5 questions – And the answers are GREAT!

Questions:

  1. What is your best source of food/energy when fishing?
  2. What is your worst injury when fishing?
  3. If you were not fishing, what would you be doing?
  4. What is your best or worst fishing story? (Choose one)
  5. If you could choose only one fishing method for the rest of your life – What would it be?

1. What is your best source of food/energy when fishing?
When it is really cold, there's nothing like eating something warm. My dear wife has given me a food thermo, where you can take warm food with you when you go fishing. Most of the time I fill it with potato soup and Vienna sausages. That gives me energy and during the lunch break, I often obtain good ideas, when things are not going so well.

2. What is your worst injury when fishing?
Unfortunately, I had injuries while fishing, but one is especially in my memory. I was with some friends in the Bodden around Rügen. Fishing was very slow and after four hours of fishing we still had nothing. The mood was lowering onboard. So, something had to change.

I changed from Herring Shad to 4-Play and already with the third cast, a decent pike took the lure. Immediately the mood was good again, there was hope. The spirit was building up again and high fives was thrown, but at the same time I wanted to grab the pike to release it from the hook.

My mind was not one hundred percent and suddenly the pike goes crazy in the landing net and it happened! Suddenly, I had the treble launched in my finger with the 4-Play dangling from it! Fortunately, my friends reacted immediately and took the hook off. Without the Cutting Plier, it could have ended worse if the pike thrashing had escalated! Being an angler, I already tried getting a hook in my skin, so I knew that I had to go to the hospital to have the tip removed from my finger.

In the hospital, I had a long talk with the doctor about this and he strongly advised me not to remove the hook myself! It can cause an inflammation or blood poisoning and the consequences would be much worse than going to the doctor for a short time. Since then I always use the Aqua Guard Gloves to avoid getting into such a situation!

3. If you were not fishing, what would you be doing?
When I am not fishing, I spend time with my wife. We are big fans of Rammstein or Metallica and try get to as many concerts as possible. We also watch comedy or artist shows. The holidays together are a nice quiet time and give me time to recharge my batteries. But in my mind, I am always a little bit fishing and planning the next tour.

4. What is your best fishing story?
I am blessed to have experienced many beautiful hours on the water. One of the best days was with my Buddy Robert Leu. We wanted to catch big pike in open water, but in the beginning it didn't go well. We fished spot after spot, but we found neither food fish nor pike. After six hours of searching we found a good amount of fish hiding close to the bottom! This was exactly what we were looking for all day! It became one of the most brilliant fishing days of my life. Our 3D Herring Shads and 3D Line Thru Trouts were heavily attacked and we caught several pike above the magic meter mark. The crowning glory was a 123cm long and extremely fat 15.51-kilogram pike. I have never seen such a fat pike in May before. This fish will remain in my memory forever!

5. If you could choose only one fishing method for the rest of your life – What would it be?
If I could only use one method, I would choose jigging. Every cast could bring a dream fish, you can catch all the predatory fish this way and feel the bite in your hands!
